In a video distributed on Yanga's official Facebook page, players from both teams and match officials can be seen lying in the field.
Mwananchi reports that stinging insects also attacked viewers in the shed, causing many of them to flee for safety.
The moment of confusion and nervousness is understood to have lasted about 10 minutes before the match resumed.
Only Yanga's star, Ali Mton Sonso, was injured during the incident and had to seek medical attention before returning to the field.
