If children feel that you hear and support them, it will have a long-term impact on their mental health, even when they are adults.
Support and Hearing Children, showing interest in their daily lives and coming to their aid in difficult times can help them have a healthy psycho-emotional development. According to a study published in Jama Pediatrics that children who feel supported and listened to by family and school will be less likely to suffer depression and other psychological problems when they grow up.
Positive Experiences and the Effects Over Time
Some scientific studies have drawn a connection between childhood negative experiences (such as abuse, neglect, violence, and lack of parents) and problems in physical and mental health. However, less clear was the impact of positive experiences on childhood on the life and psycho-emorial development of children. In an effort to understand more about it, Bloomberg School of Public Health researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore examined more than six thousand adults, urging them to remember how often they often talked about their feelings with family, relatives, or friends in difficult times and how much support they found.
At the end of the survey, it was found that the chances of developing depression or poor mental health by adults were 72% and 50% lower in those who had found support in times of difficulty. After passing data on negative experiences experienced during childhood, researchers led by Christina Bethell found that at an early age, even in the presence of adverse experiences, positive experiences of support can reduce the risk of developing problems in mental health.
Rather than trying to prevent your children from experiencing negative experiences, researchers say that it is important to learn to support them in daily life, in difficult times, and in the way of growth: they are thus taught to deal independently with adverse events that life may have preserved for them.
