For years at the helm of the PDK, Hashim Thaci remained until he gave up ambition to maintain the position. In May 2016, Kadri Wessel was elected chairman of this party.
Even so, Kadri Wessel seems to be leading The PDK is still on a warrant, as there are no counterCandids. The party's secretary general, Basri Mousmati, has confirmed this.
“Kadriu deserved this post and will certainly run for the mayor's next post. I don't know if there'll be counterCandids so far nobody's out public. The elections are still under way, and Kadriu has not officially declared candidacy”, Musmati told Express.
Internal elections in the PDK have started in October, and the elections are initially being conducted through sub-side and branch. When all is finished then the Electoral Convention will be organised, Musmati said further.

Musmurati did not give any timetable for when the party chairman will be elected.
