Bulgaria replaces Russian MIGA with F-16 Americans

Bulgaria's government has adopted a plan today for the start of negotiations on purchasing fighter planes “Locked Martin F-16” from the US to replace its fleet “Mig-29”. Defence Minister Krassimir Karakatchanov said the government has proposed to parliament to allow negotiations to begin with the US so that [the] aircraft can be supplied.

The ministry has earlier announced that the US does not need new permits and agreements so Bulgaria can get new planes, which was not in the case of bids from Sweden and Italy.
The White House announced yesterday that the US government is ready to work with the Bulgarian Government in reaching an agreement that will be in line with the Bulgarian budget and operational requirements.
“We believe that the F-16 provides the best possible combination of prices and capabilities in Bulgaria, as well as compliance with other NATO air forces”, the White House announced.
