The country's president, Hashim Thaci, has today decreed 37 new judges of the Republic of Kosovo.
At a solemn ceremony before President Thaci, the new judges, seven of whom come from the Serb community, have vowed that during the performance of the task they will remain loyal to the Republic of Kosovo, the Constitution, the laws in power and will respect the rules of professional ethics, as well as that they will faithfully carry out, independently, professionally and impartially the duties and functions entrusted to them.
“Today is a special day for the Republic of Kosovo, because the judicial system is joined by thirty-seven new judges. Kosovo has consistently made and is making reforms in the judicial system, with the sole goal of the judicial system functioning as best it can, in order to have literal rule of law in our state”, said President Thaci.
The head of state has said that a great deal has been done in the past year by institutions responsible for drafting, passing and proclaiming important laws, which have further advanced the judicial system.
Kosovo's “State is built on constitutional principles, inclusion, equality and freedom of each individual to realise himself and seek his/her happiness without ever being violated the right to be part of Kosovo society. The Republic of Kosovo has adopted adequate measures to promote a full and effective equality among members of communities in all areas of economic, social, political and cultural life. Even today the decree and oath of these judges fully reflects the multiethnic nature of the Republic of Kosovo”, President Thaci has said.
The country's first has added that judges have a major role in citizens' lives, in realising their rights and in ensuring equal access to justice, regardless of their gender, racial, religious and national distinction.
On the shoulders of the judges is a great responsibility, President Thaci has stressed, who is fully confident that they will be able to keep him, and the citizens of our country will feel themselves safe and equal before the law.
