Son, who is 26 years old, signed for the Spurs in 2015 by Bayer Leverkusen. The midfielder, who may also play the assailant, has become an important member of Maurizio Pochettino's team.
The only way he can escape 23 months from football is if he manages to win the gold medal at the next Asian Games.
Son is South Korean's best player, but nothing but winning the football tournament, held between August 18th and September 2nd, will keep him from military service.
South Korea is one of the favourites to win the gold medal. They have won three bronze medals (1954, 1958 and 1962) and four gold medals (1970, 1978, 1986, 2014).
