This Sánchez selection comes as a major contrast compared to the executive dominated by the men of former Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
Women have taken some of the highest positions, including protection, economy, finance and education.
The former astronaut, Pedro Duque, has taken on the role of Minister of Science.
The involvement of party colleagues and foreign experience figures on the part of Sánchez is being described as a “feminary cabinet”.
During a television presentation, the new prime minister has said the new government was formed by people sharing the same vision for a progressive society that is modern and pro-European.
The leader of the Conservative People's Party, Mariano Rajoy, who took the leadership of the government in 2011, left last week following a no-confidence motion. Sánchez received the support of six other parties to evacuate Rajoy, following a corruption scandal.
