Bekim Colaku, adviser to President Hashim Thaci, says his chief is willing to meet Prime Minister Haradinaj and the opposition's request to report to the Parliament on agreements with Serbia that are reached in Brussels.
President Thaci, who is continuing to lead talks with Serbia without reconciliation of the entire political spectrum in the country, however, according to Colak, would obey opposition and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj to report to the Assembly.
“The president of the Republic of Kosovo has always been and is willing to report to the Republic of Kosovo's Parliament and our citizens about the process of dialogue to normalise relations between Kosovo and Serbia”, Colak has been expressed for news.net.
He was asked if Thaci would report after each meeting, has said that Kosovo's Parliament is the way of reporting.
“Remarking and reporting mode should determine Kosovo's Assembly, while the president remains open to respect the modalities that can be determined by the Parliament”, Colaku has indicated.
Prime Minister Haradinaj, also Tuesday after the government's meeting, has said it would be good for the president to report before the Parliament for talks with Serbia.
Maybe it would be good to report to the House. So, according to my belief, important is the inclusion of the Assembly in the dialogue process. We, the government, we communicate with the presidency and with the president, but it is very important that parliamentary parties both of the opposition, but also of communities, have an instrument of communication and know the truth about the dialogue”, Haradinaj stressed.
The president's reporting before MPs has also requested the Kosovo Democratic Institute, the institute that monitors the work of the Parliament.
“After Sunday's meeting in Brussels between the presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, the head of Kosovo state. Hashim Thaci must address the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and inform MPs about the content of the talks and of the further steps of this process, which he agreed to at the” meeting, the KDI communiqué said.
Opposition parties and the Social Democrat Initiative, which is in the ruling coalition, have voiced opposition to Hashim Thaci leading the phase of dialogue.
They have said the president cannot lead the dialogue, as the Parliament would be bypassed, as there is no competence for monitoring the president.
The president with the Constitution is obliged once a year to report to the Assembly. The next meeting, Thaci-Vuchic, in Brussels, is expected to be held in two weeks.
