Serbia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dacic, has declared today that Serbia is having the pressure to reach an agreement with Kosovo this year or next. He has warned that many states will withdraw recognition of Kosovo, thus reaching below 100. On the other hand, Kosovo diplomacy continues to be passive. There has recently been no recognition of the state of Kosovo.
Dacic has continued to defend his idea that recognising Kosovo's independence is a return process, citing in his opinion the problems of New Guinea, which is facing a referendum on cutting off part of the territory.
“A large number of states today reflect on the decision to recognise Kosovo. Many have similar problems, such as Papua New Guinea, which has a referendum on cutting off a portion of its territory. When such problems knock on their door, they should think hard about recognising Kosovo, “, the minister said.
In his words, Western countries that accepted Kosovo's independence were protecting their policies from the 1990s.
The “is difficult if they change their attitude towards Kosovo, this is the end of the logic of such a policy since Yugoslavia's breakup of the unilateral declaration of independence”, he said.
Dacic further warns that the state that has recognised Kosovo could descend to less than 100.
This is their self-protection, but extremely annoying that they seek every place to attract recognition. They [Kosovo] think it is impossible for the number of countries that recognise Kosovo to fall below 100, let them think so”,
In his words, it is important that Serbia maintain a number of countries that have not recognised Kosovo's independence, and that according to him can be achieved by maintaining relations with these states.
This requires good bilateral relations with these countries, frequent visits, joint interests. There are many places in which they hardly go and which should be given more attention, such as Azerbaijan”, Dacic has said.
