Former European Parliament President Nicole Fontaine, who has also held the post of former French Minister of Industry, died Thursday at the age of 76, former Prime Minister Dominique Bussereau announced today.
French President Emmanuel Macro praised him as the figure of a devoted woman who, over 35 years of her political career, led the European construction fight, according to a presidency statement.
Macron also stressed its commitment to education.
The Fountain was born on January 16, 1942, near Fekamp, northwest France. Former Catholic vocational and education director, she became known in 1984 during the protest against a private education bill, which was eventually dropped under protest pressure.
Kosovo Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli spoke of the death of Fontaine today. He said Fontaine has been a great friend of Kosovo.
The grieved “with news that former European Parliament President Nicole Fontaine is dead. My condolences to her family and her colleagues. She was a good friend of Kosovo. On one of her visits to Kosovo in 1999, she said that the EU's “political Union was born in Kosovo, and the European Parliament had no intention of removing its role from Kosovo”, Pacolli wrote today.
