In this case, Hahn has responded that European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker has made it clear that no new member state can enter the EU without resolving open bilateral issues.
For Serbia, this means that it must complete implementation of a legally binding agreement with Kosovo. But let me file one more thing. It seems that many people, including politicians, have the impression that a solution to Kosovo is the only precondition, but it is not. Implementation of reforms in the area of rule of law, fundamental rights and good governance remains the essence of the enlargement process”, Hahn has said, broadcast Indexline.
He has further added that Kosovo is not the only precondition on Serbia's road to the EU, as according to him, the EU must be strong and harsher before expanding.
Hahn has even not answered the question of when the final agreement awaits between Kosovo and Serbia. He has not even commented on the issue of possible border change, saying the EU does not speculate on possible elements of the final agreement.
However, he has stressed that the EU fully supports dialogue between the two countries and that the final agreement implies a sustainable and realistic solution in line with international EU law.
Any agreement must be specific and adaptable and not to create any precedent, but to contribute to regional stability and the region's path to the EU”, Hahn has concluded.
