Membership in the European Union is estimated to be the only opportunity for stability and prosperity in the Western Balkans by the British Parliament's House of Lords report.
However, the EU approach, as well as the slowdown of these countries' membership process, according to this report, gives little hope in achieving that goal, writes Koha Ditore.
It is disturbing that support for EU membership of Western Balkan countries has waned. Attitudes by top EU figures, such as the European Commission president for postponement of integration, are not hopeful. This is not in the interest of the United Kingdom, as long as EU membership remains the most secure route of Western Balkan countries to achieve security, stability and prosperity”, says the report, with the title “United Kingdom and the future of the Western Balkans”.
This report criticises the EU for its access to the region, which prioritizes “sustainability before democratic values”. This, according to this report, is why the European Union and the West believe progress has been made in this region.
