Trump s'ka concrete attitude for Russia

President Donald Trump's reluctant support for stronger sanctions on Russia, as well as comments made by him, have been interpreted in Moscow as a turning point for improving relations between the two countries. Amid praise for Vladimir Putin and agreeing to economic sanctions against Russia, analysts question what the policy for President Donald Trump's Russia really is.
My decision is that there is nothing like a policy of President Trump for Russia”, says Andrei Kolesnikov, of the Centre “Carnegie” in Moscow.
Mr. Trump's comments during Russia's election campaign praised President Vladimir Putin, thus fuelling hopes for co-operation, but causing uncertainty for NATO's allied countries and Ukraine.
After eight months, it seems that his vision of the form that should have US relations with Russia is not being completed”, says James Kirchick, of the Brookings Institute.
The main reason is that members of his own party and administration have a tougher attitude towards Russian aggression in Ukraine and possible intervention in last year's American elections.
There was a big debate in Russia if Mr. Trump could prevail in front of the American democratic system. So far, he's lost. So, the model he hoped for the Kremlin, there is no”, says Mr. Kolesnikov.
President Trump's tone changed during a July speech in Poland, where he urged Russia to ban destabilising activity in Ukraine and other countries, as well as the support it gives to regimes in Syria and Iran.
This month, President Trump signed the law for stricter sanctions against Russia, though he called it “with deep shortcomings”.
Even though President Trump may yearn to have a more productive relationship with Russia, as long as Russia continues to act and behave similarly, it will be very difficult for the US and European allies to have a positive relationship with Russia”, says Mr. Kirchick.
The Russian prime minister wrote on Twitter that the law of sanctions restricting President Trump's authority, “puts an end to expectations” for improving the relationship.
Many Russians agree with him.
I think he'll always act for America. That's why I had no illusion when he was chosen. We must continue our course and not deal with it”, says Anastasiya, a Moscow resident.
But, conducting investigation into Mr. Trump's electoral team ties with Russia will continue to keep this relationship in focus. / VoA
