Shepard was a famous writer, writing some books in his career.
He won numerous awards during his lifetime, including a Pulitzer award in 1979 for the Buried Child drama.
Shepard was also nominated for an Academy Award for the role of Chuck Yeager at The Right Stuff in 1983.
