Speaking from Finland, where it is located for an official visit, the Kremlin chief responded to the media's interest in the new bloc of US sanctions passed into the House of Representatives.
“will need to see the final text of these sanctions and then make a decision. But we can't just sit back. We're running out of patience and we're going to have to avenge US arrogance”, Putin said.
For the Russian president, the new US sanctions are <x0 relatively cynical”. Washington's new sanctions package aims to hit Moscow for its intervention in American presidential elections, as well as North Korea and Iran for their ballistic and nuclear missile programmes.
But Moscow is not the only one against these sanctions. This time the United States has neither the European Union, at least according to what Jean Claude Juncker signalled.
The first “America does not mean that Europe's interests come last”, he said.
In fact, new sanctions envision the punishment of all companies involved in Russian gas exports, which would jeopardise the construction of a gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.
If our concerns are not taken into account, we are willing to act properly within a few days”, Juncker followed.
Speakers of the House of Representatives and Senate at the US Congress reached an agreement regarding the sanctions package. In the first package was passed by an overwhelming majority, while the Senate is expected to be voted in before the start of August holidays.
President Trump himself has given no signal whether to veto these sanctions. But even if the veto is established, it risks being abolished by the Senate if it is voted in the overwhelming majority.
