This is as general elections cost 5m euros, while local ones are expected to also cost about 5m euros, totaling 10m euros.
These costs by millions of euros, according to analyst Mazlum Baraliu, could be rationalised if greater discipline was imposed on the expenses of the CEC and municipal commissions.
“Elections are imposed and occur on four-year terms, be they premature. But there should be other mechanisms of the electoral system where greater discipline would be imposed on such expenses. And these expenses could simply be reduced by electoral reform, which has been talking about it for many years but is not being implemented” Baraliu told Indexline.
According to Baraliu, there are ways through which spending by millions of euros in elections can be reduced in order to save the budget.
I think there was a possibility for rationalization. Election reforms should be implemented in the upcoming elections. This reform would allow elections to cost much cheaper, reasonable costs that neither charge citizens, budgets, and enable the implementation of elections in fact precise time and efficiency” has been expressed by Baraliu.
Local elections will be held on 22 October.
