Loaned to Ipswich Town, Bersant Celine in an interview for Eadt.co.uk has shown his childhood journey to flee Kosovo during the war period.
Celine, born in Prizren in 1996, at the age of two, had left Kosovo to go to Drammen, Norway.
I was two years old when we moved to Norway because of what happened in the former Yugoslavia. People were dying, continuing to be killed is the most terrible thing that could happen. That's why we left, we didn't want to get killed”, says Celine, 21.
Celine also explains how difficult it was for her to choose between Norway and Kosovo, while in U15 and U21 she had played for Norway. But when Kosovo joined UEFA and FIFA in May 2016, he decided on his hometown.
He shows that his parents had not influenced his decision to elect Kosovo.
I grew up in Norway, so I felt Norwegian when I lived there. However, I knew I was from another country. When the time came to decide who to play for, Norway or Kosovo was a very difficult moment for me. As a child, I wanted to play for Norway, but we didn't have Kosovo representatives at the time and I didn't know it was going to happen, and then we had a national, and that changed everything. My parents didn't tell me anything, I had to decide what I felt, and that's what I felt like”, he says, "Time.net broadcasts."
Celine shows how she feels when she plays with Kosovo, and is honored to play for the representative.
The “is a different feeling (to play for Kosovo) because of what everyone has been through. Everyone on the team has their own story about their families. It's a special honor to play for them. We have many new talents and some good players. We're gonna need time to get into big races, but I think it's gonna happen”, Celine said.
Celine says his biggest fan is his father, who supported him in every step of his career.
The 21-year-old also talked about his future, which he believes will be Manchester City's.
He says he dreams of playing Premier League with his Manchester City club, which, despite strong competition there, is confident it can play.
I'm in contact with them every week, several times a week. I know I'm being watched, supported, and wanted to be successful. I know they believe I'm good enough to join their team”, he said.
