Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has on Monday called on the United States of America, his country's biggest ally, to be involved in mediated EU talks between Kosovo and Serbia aimed at resolving differences.
Haradinaj has said US participation is vital to moving negotiations forward.
The AmericanRole is necessary for peace”, Haradinaj said in an interview for Reuters.
We see the American rolin at the table as the basic necessity”.
The talks should be concluded with mutual recognition of citizenship “between Kosovo and Serbia”, he said.
Haradinaj said that by the end of the year, his government will sign an agreement with the US power company “Contour Global” for a 1 billion-euro coal power plant.
The New York-based company was the only bidder for the 660MW thermal power plant to replace Kosovo, A 40 years old.
The project has been criticised by environmentalists who say Kosovo should rely more on renewable energy sources than on coal.
The “will have clean advanced technology and will ensure enough energy for the next 20 years”, Haradinaj said in this interview.
