In an interview for the New York Times, Rutte also praised former US President Donald Trump's contribution to launching dialogue with Vladimir Putin, naming it a necessary step to peace.

Rutte stressed that, despite the increased financial commitment of European allies, including strong support for Ukraine, the challenge lies also in the lack of industrial capacities for weapons production and in the insufficient number of personnel.

He warned that security in the Arctic, Atlantic and Europe has direct impact on global stability and US strategic interests.

Despite efforts for dialogue, Rutte noted the failure of the peace talks in Istanbul due to Russia's serious failure to engage, underlining the need for Ukraine to remain militarily strong to prevent future aggression.

Secretary NATO rejected Russian criticism of the alliance's increased defence spending, naming them propaganda and an indicator of prevention efficiency.

He also noted the importance of co-operation with the North Koreans, China and Iran, which according to him reinforce Russia's position in the international arena./Periscopi/
