An armed attack on a high school in Austria's town of Graz shocked the country Tuesday. The number of victims went to 11 in the afternoon after a woman died in the hospital from wounds suffered. Twelve others were injured, including two in critical situations and five in danger of life. All underwent immediate surgical operations.

The tragic event took place at BORG Dreyerschützengasse School, located in the town's Lend district. The attack began about 10:00 a.m. when the suspected author opened fire in at least two separate classes. According to authorities, ten people lost their lives in the country, while the assailant is thought to have taken his life in the school toilets.

Police reacted immediately, surrounding the area and redirecting traffic. Armed forces and the Cobra Special Unit were deployed at the scene. The situation was brought under control by 11:30, according to officials.

From the current data, victims are seven female and three male students.

According to the Interior Minister, the attacker was a 21-year-old native of Graz, who had previously been a schoolboy but had not completed his studies. He owned two weapons a gun and a long gun that was used in the attack.

His motive remains unclear, and authorities have launched a deepening investigation, expected to last days or even weeks.

The Styrian Education Directorate has activated emergency psychological teams and has established centers for support of students and family members. A support line for parents and students is also being offered at the Helm-List-Hall Centre.

Experts recommend open discussions with children and restricting exposure to media in the days following the incident to help deal with the trauma.
