Every year this date is marked to assess the freedom of the press in the world, to protect the media from attacks on their independence and to honour journalists who have lost their lives in exercising their profession.
In the World Organisation's annual report “Reporters Without Borders” for 2025, Kosovo ranks 99th out of 180 states, marking the biggest decline in its history of 24 countries compared to last year.
Kosovo rankings over years according to press freedom
Over the years, Kosovo was 92nd in 2010, 87th in 2011-2012, 85th in 2013, 80th in 2014, 87th in 2015, 90th in 2016.
A year later, in 2017, it marked a rise to 82nd place, which continued in 2018 positions 78, in the 75th, 2020 and 70th, to fall in 2021 to 78th position.
In 2022, Kosovo rose to 61 and in 2023 was in the best position ever -- 56. Last year Kosovo marked the decline for 19 countries, ranking 75th. /Periscopi/
