The authors who published their study in the magazine PNAS, found that virginity in later life is the result of a complex mix of psychological, social and genetic factors.
Romantic and sexual relations are often important social support. Their absence is accompanied by loneliness, anxiety, depressive feelings and reduced well-being for many”, said co-author Laura Wesseldijk of the Max Planck Institute for Empyric Efficiency (MPIEA) of Germany in Frankfurt, broadcast Klankosova. tv
The research team, which includes scientists from the Netherlands and Australia, examined the data of more than 400,000 people in Great Britain, aged 39 to 73. About 1 per cent of respondents claimed they had never had sex.
What do the inexperienced have in common?
This group was an averager of education but even more lonely, concerned, and less happy than those with sexual experience, it reported MPIEA.
Researchers also found that virginity throughout life was the most common in areas of greater income inequality.
In men, physical characteristics also played a role: Men who had never had sex were more likely to be weaker in body. They also tended to live in regions with fewer women.
About 15 percent of the changes in virginity throughout life can be explained by genetic factors. Bascautor Abdel Abdelaoui of Amsterdam University explained: “The most surprising migration is with genetic factors linked to intelligence, education and neurodevelopive disorders such as autism”.
The study also revealed that people who had never had sex were less likely to use alcohol or drugs and more likely to wear glasses in their youth.
