A lovely storm named Ida is bringing great disasters and victims to some parts of America.
Human names have already been used for natural phenomena.
An Australian scientist began to blow up only female names in the late 19th century. During World War II, scientists used the names of their wives or girlfriends for storms. American weather experts began storming female names in 1953.
In 1979 they also began using male names. Scientists decide which proper names to use long before storms occur.
During World Weather Organization meetings, they create special lists with these names. The Miami National Bridges Centre of the state of Florida has a list of names of the Atlantic storms for each six-year period. Experts begin naming storms when winds reach speeds of 60 miles [2 62 km] an hour, even when wind speed does not increase and the storm passes unnoticed.
The first name used at the beginning of the storm season begins with the letter A. Second with letter B, and so on. letters Q, V, X, Y and Z are not used. The same list cannot be reused after six years. Various lists are used in various parts of the world.
One name is removed when the storm with that name was extremely destructive. Oceanic storms arise when air temperatures in an area are different from those in the area nearby. Warm air goes up as cold air descends. These movements make a difference in atmospheric pressure./Periscopi/
