Mission NATO in Kosovo, KFOR, today has published a video from the Ibër Bridge in Mitrovica to show that they are patrolling in that area.

In this video, KFOR writes about K9 units, which are special teams of trained dogs, which can detect explosives and signal soldiers.

K9 units are special teams with very trained dogs. They regularly perform inspections to keep security and calm. They can detect explosives like surface ones like underground ones. When a dog discovers an explosive he sits down and signals his trainer. The connection between the dog and its owner is essential for the success of team”, the video description says.

KFOR made the common statement that it continues on “to implement its mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in 1999 to provide a safe and secure environment for all people living in Kosovo”.

This message from KFOR comes after Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statements yesterday that his government aims at opening Ibër Bridge, saying the move is against no one.

“No one can say that this is not a good and fair thing, but we want the law to be implemented, and freedom of movement respected, but also to have peace and security for all”, Kurti said yesterday at a news conference.

His statement to this conference came after a meeting he had with the ambassadors of the QUINT states on the very subject.

“Within information and co-ordination with our international partners, the treatment subject at this meeting was also the importance of co-ordinating institutional action for the opening of the bridge over the Iber River as well as for cars, in order to enable full freedom of movement that helps citizens on both sides of the bridge, indiscriminately, and at the same time serves the development of the economy and the market through the easiest movement of goods and 48x1> capital, ZKM had announced after this meeting.

Meanwhile, KFOR, which is consistently present on the Ibër Bridge, had given its stance on this goal of the Government of Kosovo that any decision regarding the bridge be taken within the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, mediated by the European Union.

Italian KFOR Karabiniers have permanent presence on the Ibër Bridge and perform patrols in the district. The bridge is also monitored by members of the Kosovo Police.

This topic was opened after initially discussed in the Northern Mitrovica Municipal Assembly, which is led by the Vetevendosje Movement's Erden Attic, for the bridge to be completely opened for circulation.

Northern Mitrovica Municipal Assembly Chairman Nedzad Uglanin had said that implementing the decision on the bridge issue belongs to the central authorities and security institutions.
