Former American diplomat: Serbian Policy Against Albanians Has Been Horrible

He has said they predicted that after NATO's intervention, there would be revenge on Albanians on Serbs because of the actions they had taken against them.

I guess so. Mostly for the fact that Serb police forces and Serb paramilitary forces, for years under Milosevic's direct command had committed brutal, terrible policies against the Albanian population by robbing their homes, diegurating their villages and even killing people. This was later confirmed through operational plans. For example; in the operation '%patkoi, which was discovered by Serbian intelligence”, he said.

Byrnes said there were continued natural operations like that “Patkoi”.

And Milosevic's main objective as already known was to make a considerable number of Albanians so that it could create a more favourable demographic situation for him or a balance or demographic balance that would benefit Serbs. Again, I want to say that Serbian policy towards Albanians in particular since 1989 and in the future has been absolutely terrible, and therefore we predicted that when NATO entered Kosovo that Albanians would do the same as the Serbs had done. They would avenge, at least one part of them against Serbs who had been mistreating them for years and years and years so brutally treating them”, has added Byrnes.

Prior to that, lawyer Luka Misethic presented the witness with a video of Penatgon's spokesman, where he too had such a prediction about minority Serbs who were in Kosovo and what could happen to them after NATO intervened.

It is a fact that I don't think Kosovo will be a very happy place for Serbs when NATO enters Kosovo. I don't think Serbs would have to keep standing there. I think they should return to Serbia. I don't know how big the minority-Serb minority can be there. It could be 100 thousand, it could be more than that, but while the Kosovo Albanians go back to Kosovo we think Serbs will leave Kosovo”, the Pentagon's spokesman was heard on June 5, 1999.

Two cables of March 10, 1999, were also introduced to the Witnesses, both of which he said were written.

In one of them bearing the name of the Skopje Embassy, it was said that local commanders sought to replace Commander Drin after supporting the Rambouillet agreement.

While, the second cablegram was written the same date only that sent by the Belgrade Embassy, it was said they talked about a meeting with Jakup Krasniqi and Rame Bouja, in which it was discussed the concerns they had about the future of the KLA, as the commanders of the areas disagreed with the conditions of Rambouje.

After that, a statement was presented he had issued earlier in which he expressed Thaci's insistence on convincing Commander Remi and Ramush Haradinaj to accept the deal.

I now understand that Thaci had to go to the commanders of the area, both to Remi and Haradinaj, to persuade him to get approval for the Rambouillet agreement. This shows the limited control that the General Staff had over the commandership of” area said, while reading the statement, with which the witness was once again reconciled.

However, from time to time, the session has gone to private sessions and with edited content. /Betimy for Justice
