On 19 March, the European Union has called a meeting of dialogue for normalising reports between Kosovo and Serbia at the level of chief negotiators.

Free Europe Radio Learns from its diplomatic sources that at this meeting it is expected to be discussed on the sequence plan for implementation of the Agreement on the road towards normalising reports between Kosovo and Serbia on other issues, with the possibility of involvement in discussions and the Serbian dinar issue.

The United States envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar confirmed this meeting. After a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the American emissary said he expects the Kosovo government to be flexible at this meeting.

Kosovo's chief negotiator is Besnik Bislimi, meanwhile, that of Serbia is Petar Petkov.

The dinar issue, Kosovo and Serbia have discussed in Brussels at the end of February. But at that meeting, where Kosovo was represented by Kosovo Central Bank Governor Ahmet Ismaili, there was no result.

On 1 February, a BEC regulation has entered into force, envisioning the euro as the only currency for payment in Kosovo, preventing the use of the dinar.

The US and the EU have criticised that decision, saying it was taken without preliminary consultations and without taking into account negative effects on the Serb population in Kosovo.

Washington has urged Kosovo to postpone implementation of the decision, meanwhile, the EU is demanding that this issue be resolved within the dialogue it mediates.

Kosovo has said the dinar issue is technical and should not be included in political dialogue for normalisation of reports. Meanwhile, Serbia seeks a political solution to the issue. / REL
