Today, Colonel Andrea Gallien, spokesman for KFOR's General Staff, has held a news conference, where he has talked about the operation of this mission. The situation in northern Kosovo has also received special attention. Gallienti was asked about the arrest of two violent protesters following protests in the north on May 29th. He replied that the arrests were not carried out by KFOR, but by Kosovo Police, which according to him is responsible for implementing the law in the country.

“Po, because Kosovo Police are responsible for rule of law and for implementing rule of law”, Gallien has said.

“During the protest, two persons were committing illegal actions or violent acts against KFOR troops, they were only detained, and then it was KFOR police to take them and, if arrested, they were found guilty of their conduct. But, KFOR does not arrest, it is KFOR police responsible for these related actions related to the rule of law in Kosovo”, he said. He went on to say if there are armed protesters they should be arrested. Gallient also expressed the conviction that these individuals were not part of the armed population.

“It is the primary task of Kosovo police, because it is responsible for rule of law, to take all actions to find these groups, and if there are any criminals, to implement the law. But we know for sure that if someone participates in a protest with improvised tools and weapons, it's not from the common population”, he said.
