A strike by the American Writers' Association (WGA) -- the first in 15 years -- will lead more than 9,000 writers, nearly 98% of voters to leave.

The strike comes into force at 12:01 Tuesday, Guild said on Twitter.

It may influence late Tuesday night performances, while future performances and movies may face delays.

In 2007, writers went on strike for 100 days at a cost of about $2 billion.

The main issues in the talks have been how screenwriters are paid for performances that often remain on broadcast platforms for years, as well as the future impact of artificial intelligence on writing.

For their part, studios have collectively said they should cut costs due to financial pressures, while noting how the overall payments of screenwriters reached a higher level of all 494m dollars in 2021.
