One of them is James O'Brien, whom he nominated for Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. James C. O'Brien currently serves as head of the Sanction Coordination Office at the US State Department, which he has held since 2022.
Previously, O'Brien served in the two American administrations as a special presidential envoy.
A former State Department career employee who has received numerous performance awards from 1989 to 2001, he served as High Council of former Secretary Madeleine Albright, Deputy Director of Policy Planning and Presidential Envoy for the Balkans. O'Brien has a degree from Yale Law School, an M.A. degree from Pittsburgh University and a B.A. degree. From Macalester College to St. Paul, Minnesota.
He is a member of the Council for Foreign Relations and studied French and Russian.
Currently, it holds Karen Donfreed, who was appointed by Biden in October 2021.
