Japanese researchers surveyed and looked at health records of 8,500 men who were mainly in their 60s over seven years.
Those who claimed to be interested in sex at the start of the study had a 69 - percent lower risk of dying from any cause until the end of the study.
Researchers believe that a low sexual desire is a sign of poor health in general like poor diet, obesity, or other chronic diseases.
The study recruited 21,000 men and women from seven cities within its local Prefecture, about 400km north of Tokyo. Participants were initially surveyed for their interest in sex, where everyone was asked: Is there an interest in the opposite sex? ) Those who responded were described as still sexually interested. But anyone who said no was defined as without sexual interest.
Among men, 7032 (82 percent) said that they were interested in sexual activity, while 636 said that they had no interest in sex. Those who were not interested in sex were more likely to be older, to have diabetes, and to be less happy.
But data showed that there was no difference between men in each group being married or divorced.
