A 2,000-year-old ring with Augustus ' head, the first Roman emperor, was sold at auction in Birmingham, England, for a record 117 thousand pounds.
The ring was expected to be sold for 150 or 200 pounds, but the buyer finally got it 450 times its original value. This ring is believed to have been purchased in Italy in the 19th century, and then ended up in England.
The Roman emperor's head is carved in the ring, the process known as “intago”. It is believed that it is the head of Emperor Augustus, who ruled the Roman Empire from 27 BC to 14 B.C.E. when he passed away.
