Although consumers are legally protected in Kosovo, violations of their rights are quite frequent. This year alone, over 500 complaints have been addressed in the Consumer Protection Department. Consumer rights violations also claim promoters of consumer rights who invite institutions to care more for citizens.
International Consumer Day, which is marked every March 15th since 1962, consumers in Kosovo are being found with violations of legally guaranteed rights. Price fraud or even false discounts are quite frequent. But, for consumer Ardian Krasniqi, the most disturbing of all is the sale of expired products.
I have personally had to pay a product more expensive than the price on the shelf. But, much worse phenomenon than this is selling products indefinitely, as it has happened to buy. This is disturbing, as it shows that there are businessmen who for a while are able to risk someone's life”, he said.
Ceatin Kachanic, who has been running the Organisation “Consumer”, with which promoting consumer citizens' rights, also told Radio Kosovo that consumer rights violations are huge.
The consumer protection law does not apply on many points. We're not protected. Courts are full of complaints by consumer citizens. An even worse reaction than a complaint is the silence. Therefore, MINT, the Government of Parliament, should be remembered not to think that they have solved matters because there are few complaints, but let them know that this silence might once explode”, Kachanic said.
Regarding the number of complaints of consumers and fines pronounced this year, Radio Kosovo has been addressed to the Consumer Protection Department. In a written reply from this institution, they have indicated that 509 complaints have been received during this year.
“As regards the number of complaints addressed are 303. All consumer complaints are addressed by the Market Inspectorate, and during this period 67 fines have been imposed and a large number of remarks on eliminating irregularities simultaneously. ”
It is known that during 2022 The Market Inspectorate has accepted and examined 1,239 complaints and pronounced 311 fines.
