Senior officials also spoke on the phone about the need to continue co-ordinating co-operation in military, humanitarian and economic aid.
They also cited the food crisis caused by the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Both Macron and Johnson reiterated their support for European efforts to allow Ukrainian wheat exports under “solidarity routes”.
The United Kingdom has supplied Ukraine with a host of military equipment. In July, Johnson announced additional military assistance worth one billion pounds, which brings the total aid London has given Kiev since the start of the war to 2.3 billion pounds.
France is also helping Ukraine, although Macro has repeatedly faced criticism for his calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he tried to end aggression.
The French president and British prime minister visited Ukraine during the war. Macro was in the Ukrainian capital in June. Johnson visited Kiev twice in May and the second time in June.
