Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said Western sanctions on Russia “are not linked to the widespread lack of food in the world, writes Sky News.
In a statement, Kuleba said: “Sanctions against Russia have nothing to do with the global food crisis that I am taking.
The only reason for shortages, price hikes and the threat of hunger is the Russian army that physically blocks 22 million tonnes of Ukrainian food exports to our maritime ports. Ask Moscow to complete its blockade. ”
Russia and Ukraine are major exporters of some of the world's largest foods, and among them are responsible for 53% of the global oil and sunflower seeds and 27% of wheat trade, according to the UN Conference on Trade and Development.
For now, Ukraine has large quantities of wheat in storage, which because of the war, is unable to export.
Moscow and Kiev have exchanged the blame for which is responsible for keeping loads linked, with Russia saying Ukrainian sea mines prevented safe passage.
