In a statement issued on 12 May, the multinational company has said it has launched “procedures to halt operations and business activities” in Russia.
We condemn the war in Ukraine and have decided to stop our business activity in Russia. This has not been an easy decision, considering our duty to care for our workers and the long-term relationship with consumers, in a market where we have been active for nearly 170 years”, said the company's president, Ronald Busch, adding that “we are offering humanitarian aid to our colleagues and the people of Ukraine and joining the international community in calling for peace<3>.
Since Moscow has begun its unprovocational invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, hundreds of companies from around the world have fled the Russia market.
Siemens earlier suspended business activities in Russia and Belarus, which helped the Kremlin in the war.
In Russia, Siemens has produced household equipment.
It has also produced electric trains in a joint venture with the railway engineering company, Ural Locomotives, and has provided technical support to fast electric trains, Sapsan, produced by Russia.
