With palmic acid, the consumption of palm oil and squid, old cheeses, can have an important effect on tumors, increasing their aggression, and favouring the beginning of metastases. This was revealed by research conducted by researchers from the Barcelona Institute of Biomedicine Research and published in the science magazine Nature.
Exposing various fatty acids
The study examined tumors and melanomas in the mouth hollow, praising their reaction and developing changes based on the action of important doses of various fatty acids, which, besides the palmit, included oleic (typical for extra virgin olive oil) and linoleic (responsive in the seed).
Long-term action
The results showed that palmitic acid was able to activate several genes, capable of changing “identity” of tumors and to make them more aggressive. In this way, the tumor has a greater capacity to develop metastases, and as a result, it goes on to expand to other organs, creating an environment for the acid effect to continue even when exposure is interrupted.
An Important Discovery
The diametrically opposed results for oleic and linoleic acid, which did not show the same reaction. Rather, daily consumption of these oils helps protect against tumors. What the new study adds should be found in the sense of tumor metabolism and in the assessment of why the same tumor can develop relatively quickly in different patients.
Foods containing palmic acid should not be eliminated from our diet, but those containing good “ ” are still popular.
