Albania's prosecution from action with Kosovo: 17 police officers in prison, three suspended

The Special Prosecutor against Corruption and Organised Crime has disclosed details from the operation conducted in co-operation with the Kosovo Special Prosecutor at the Morina border checkpoint.

In reporting to the media, the SPAK states that criminal prosecution for criminal work “corruption passively of those exercising public office”, has started on the basis of the tacit material referred to by the Internal Affairs and Anques Service, on suspicion of involvement of some of the police officers in the Border Cross Morina Point, in illegal activities for criminal acts “passive corruption of persons who exercise public functions<3>, “in goods, for which to be paid back <5>, and <6> for the illegal border crossing <6>

“Over the investigation is documented the illegal activity of State Police officers at the Local Directorate for Borders and Migration, Kukes during the time of the service at the Morina Border Cross, Kukes. Illegal acts consisted of numerous corruptions committed in the ongoing exercise of duty by these employees, forcing Albanian and foreign citizens to pay various amounts of money for the transition from Albania to Kosovo and vice versa-”, the SPAK states.

The investigation has documented 312 episodes of corrupt actions of police officers who favoured different people for the introduction of smuggled goods; people who trafficked vehicles, other illegal items; helped cross the border with various persons with legal problems for their access and access to EU countries, as far as illegal records of access and exit to Albanian territory; and helped other people who had problems with the law, who were not registered in the T system The IMS, since they were not allowed to travel to Kosovo and vice versa.

At the request of the Special Court for Corruption and Organised Crime 34 personal security measures, of which 32 Kuka Border Police officers, with different functions within the District and Migration Directorate Kukes, including the Director of this Directorate, for conducting criminal acts “Use of task”, “passive corruption of those exercising public functions”, in co-operation, “Equipment of illegal influence on those exercising public functions”.

Personal security measures are: For 17 persons of police workers, dealtrests at home for 14 citizens and police workers, as well as a task promotion of 3 police officers.

The SPAK emphasises that the Internal Affairs and Ankesat Service, in co-operation with the General Directorate of State Police and the Department of Border Police, have today executed personal security measures appointed by the tribunal.
