Two Croatian doctors treat patients suffering from obesity with a therapy that involves many disciplines. To succeed is more important to the spiritual balance and patience than sports and fasting radically.

A person who struggles to reduce his weight well knows how difficult it is to lose his extra weight: Sports is exhausting, and diets often have short - term success. As soon as you're down a few pounds of food, they come back in a while. Overweight - obesity - affects the quality of life and shortens the life span of the affected.

Doctors from Osijek, Mario Curkoviq and Drazen Gorjanski are talking about the success they have had in helping those 130 overweight people to drop their weight.

These two doctors do not use any therapy or diet but treat patients with different ways because Curkoviq and Gorjanski believe that obesity is a complex but curable disease. The method doctors use is called “POST”, the ossies program for weight reduction, (Program Ojeckog Smanjivanja Tezine). They have not expected the very success of behavioral therapy.

Body communication complex ways

Human psychology is hard to understand, Goranjski points out. And since it is complex, many factors also play a role in obesity. Hence, obesity should be treated as a disease involving many disciplines.

“Like many other diseases, obesity has many causes, treatments, and cures”, says the doctor. There is a constant weight storage system in our body, homeostatic system. It relies on communication between the digestive system and brain centers responsible for hunger, saturation and taste. ”

Most people eat normally when they are hungry. And they eat what they like, not gaining weight. “Anyway, with today's lifestyle, a large food supply is offered and is eaten more frequently by causing damage to communication between the digestive system and the brain,” says Gorjanski.

Consuming this communication back into balance is the goal of PET therapy. “Through training of autogens, meditation, recovery of the treatment system and fasting on occasion, we actually update both the digestive system and the homeostatic system and communication between them,” says the doctor. Away From Myths of Obesity

During the development of therapy, two doctors have had to deal with multiple myths on obesity, for example, that weight can be reduced by diet combined with movement, according to the motto “eat less than move more”. Sports and movements are healthy and good, yet none of the patients spend much on therapy. Doctors do not make patients count calories or keep diets strong.

In their therapy the goal is more to make the habit of hunger worse. Therapy reverses hunger - related harassment until the brain is driven by it only when it really needs food - when it is hungry.

“If the adjustment works, then the weight decrease occurs. So success is achieved: “if calories are reduced, then results are achieved in weight reduction. ”

Learning to Listen to the Body

The program contains courses that are held once a week for six months. Patients lose between 15 and 20 pounds [15 and 20 kg] during this period. One has even managed to lower 40 kilos.

Doctors point out that the amount of pounds put down by someone is not an indication of the effectiveness of their method. The important thing is simply to balance communication between the stomach and the brain.

130 patients who have used therapy POST, agree with the doctor's confidence in the scientific values of their method. Both doctors are currently working on a scientific study.

Comparisons to Other Programmes on Behavioral Treatment

This programme has had even better results than POST, Croatian doctors say. Gorjanski says TBMP is estimated to be the world's most successful weight reduction programme, but participants do not reflect the real average population. Food as a Habit

But why are behavioral therapies not yet common to combat obesity? Nobody gets money this way of lowering the weight. Because it does not contain medications that need to be taken constantly or special money. No one wins money with people who took the fat,” says the doctor.
