Oncology Director: In the first 25 days of this year, 115 new cancer cases have been diagnosed

Nearly 400 people each day receive treatment at the Oncology Clinic, where the average age of patients receiving treatment is over 50 to 60 years of age. The director of this clinic, Ilir Kurtishi, said that within this year some 115 new patients, most of them women, [...]
The director of this clinic, Ilir Kurtishi, has told Online Economy that within this year some 115 new patients, most of whom are females, have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Men are dominated by lung and colon cancer.
Depending on the days when they are the most loaded this year, the trend of malignant diseases continues from 2021. We in the first 24-25 days of this year have recorded nearly 115 people diagnosed with cancer, where most of them are breast cancer, while men are dominated by lung cancer right after them. And breast cancer among females is gender organ cancer, and these are disease that continues to be on the trend and growing from year to year”, Kurtish said.
Which drops nearly 400 people a day is treated in our clinic during working days plus the cases that we have hospitalized and lying in the departments that receive treatment 24 hours or 48 hours or cases that have side effects of therapy that we observe, treat and manage those side effects. Although the number of new cases between the ages of 50 is still problematic in Kosovo and the Balkan countries. All the cases that are reported between the ages of 50 and 60, various forms of tumors are usually in advanced stages of the disease, the 3-4 stage of the disease, when even oncological treatment is more intense, and when the effects of treatment may be less, less for the patient”, he said.
Oncological treatments performed at this clinic are two forms of services with radiation medicines and treatments. While delivering cases abroad is on the decline, in which within the past year only 3 cases have been recorded that have needed special radiation, which is not accomplished even in the countries of the region.
“From last year we started a particular radiation called “BRAD” therapies where the greatest requests for sending patients abroad have been in advance. The year 2021 we haven't already sent, we have two-quarters of patients who need a special radiation that doesn't even work in the region, but these are minimal cases that we should recommend a particular form of radiation. Otherwise, almost a thousand people who needed radiation have turned up radiation at our” clinic, Kurtishi said.
Kurtishi said they had a huge challenge at the time of the pandemic, which is continuing to be so. The main challenge remains the late announcement of patients in the department, which he said was missing.
There's been various campaigns during October when there's a breast cancer awareness campaign, but this shouldn't be just that month because we have cancer every day, every week. Normally a major effect has been had by media that informed Kosovo citizens to report to the doctor earlier. But not only breast cancer but other diseases that can be detected earlier, such as cervical cancer, cervical cancer or colon cancer, when scanning methods, with routine methods we can detect these diseases very early in life. This translates into the health of the population and a very small cost then to our country to treat these:x1>, Kurtishi said. / EO
