The sexual secrets men and women hide from their partners

When people describe traits that they want in a partner, honesty usually tops the list. Yet, even though we want partners who always tell us the truth, many of us hide things in our relationships, especially sex life.

How many people have roughly sexual secrets? What do they hide? And why are they hiding this information from partners?

A recent study published in Sexualy & Culture magazine attempted to reveal just the answers to these questions. Researchers surveyed 195 students regarding their sexual secrets. Participants completed an online survey about the number and kind of sexual secrets they carried, the reasons for hiding this information, and their previous experiences in revealing these secrets.

It turned out that more than a third of participants (36%) said they kept at least a sexual secret in their current or most recent romantic relationship. However, more than half (55%) said they had discovered a sexual secret to their partner at one point in the past.

Participants reported having secrets about a wide range of things; however, the kinds of secrets people kept differed on their gender. For women, the most common things they hid from their partners were: 1) stories of sexual abuse, 2) emotional treason, 3) curiosity about violent sex/ BDSM, 4) The use of pornography and 5) the pleasure of sexual toys.

The most common things men would hide included: 1) the use of pornography, 2) the fact that they had previously had three - and three - way relationships.

The reasons for men and women for maintaining sexual secrets also differed. Especially were women more likely to report that they kept secrets because they thought their partners would not understand.

On the other hand, men were more likely to keep secrets because they thought that their partner would not accept their behavior, even if they belonged to the past.

Other reasons for maintaining sexual secrets included fear that their partner would reveal the secret and concern that this would end the relationship.

In most cases, people reported positive experiences when they discovered their secrets of sex. They had usually felt more relaxed, and their respective partners had responded.

However, although fewer in number, there were also those who reported having experienced a certain lack of admission from their partner and even separation as a result of the discovery of the secret.

It should be noted that the conclusion of this study shows that being honest in a relationship either makes it stronger or destroys it. And when you think about it, you don't get lost in any of these cases.
