At the panel for lessons from Albright, US Ambassador Jeffrey Havenier said she was committed to our region for all ethnicities and religions to live in peace and security.
This speaks of her commitment to the region to all people of all ethnicities and religions that could live in peace and security. Also, for her willingness to deal with aggression, as it was extremely steadfast in its principles”, he said.
Part of the panel was Ann Lind from Sweden's Foreign Affairs Minister, who said Albright's influence was beyond the US.
She added that if women were always at the table where the agreements are made, they would stay longer.
Albright had wanted to fix things all her life. It has been and made a difference beyond the United States... if the women at the peace arrangements table are made, they will stay longer. There is no doubt about it, this is fact and point...Alright has supported Kosovo's independence, this has been part of the long-standing Swedish foreign policy, but I have yet to push forward democracy and freedom and equal rights”, she said.
On the other hand, Monica McWilliams, former peace negotiator, said she has learned much from the former American secretary of state.
I've had doubts about military intervention, but then I understood their need for preventing humanitarian crises, as in Kosovo... what I tell you women in Kosovo is that peace made the difference. The other message Albright left me is it's hard to reach a deal, so don't step on it”, she stressed.
Albright's role for peace and women also praised former NATO Commander Wesley Clark.
The Forum for Women, Peace and Security is continuing in Pristina with other panel discussions.
