Commission for National Security head: Ukrainian Conflict - Russia's going to spread to the Balkans

Socialist MP told Kosovo Press that Kosovo should take firm and slow steps towards the agreement with Serbia. The former director of the Intelligence Service at Albania's Interior Ministry also talks about the two countries' defence capacities.

Responding to developments between Russia and Ukraine, Naco said that from information received as a NATO member state, he does not believe the flood of the Ukraine-Russia conflict will spread to the Balkans as well.

I don't believe that the wave of conflict that is in Ukraine and Russia will spread to the Balkans, and I said just before as a NATO member we have even received mutual information within NATO and I believe that more work is needed, more co-operation among the countries of the region, because the more co-operative we are will be the countries of the region. [...] Russian efforts to emerge in the Balkans and the Mediterranean have been historically consistent, as are our efforts to stem and establish a Sanitary cord between the countries of the East and Western Balkan countries and NATO in particular”, Naco said.

Albania's former justice minister also spoke of a possible final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, saying slow but firm steps must be taken, as countries of the region co-operation is inevitable, especially in the aspirations for membership in the European Union.

I believe we should take decisive but slow steps in this direction (to the final agreement) because they are the countries of the region and we are obliged to co-operate within all agreed standards as an EU country. [...] I believe our objective is the European Union, and within the EU framework we have to take small but also confident steps towards the European Union, I believe this will be the solution for us, for Kosovo and for all Western Europe”, the SP deputy in Albania stressed.

The former head of the Terrorism Act Sector stressed that Kosovo and Albania are strengthening their defence capacities every day, but that there is no need to worry about it.

“Sic are other countries in the region, but Kosovo and Albania at any moment as NATO member and powerful partner The U.S. is strengthening their defence capacities every day because we are talking about protection and we never think about attacking other countries in the region and we say we have the support of Euro-Atlantic partners and are guaranteed in this direction”, he says.

Naco, together with members of Albania's Parliament's National Security Commission, remained on a two-day visit to Kosovo, where they met leaders of all security institutions in the country.
