How often do you kiss your partner? Every day? Once a week? Almost never? Have you and your partner kissed the last time you had a relationship? Not at all, or just a little? Or maybe a lot?
According to new research, your answer to these questions may be a way of understanding how satisfied you are and in your general relationship.
Study
In a new study published recently in the Journal of Sex & Marriage, researchers were interested in whether two types of kiss 1 (e.g. the kiss that took place during the last sexual relationship) and 2) a global kiss (that is, the kiss that occurs in a couple) can predict the level of sexual satisfaction and that of a couple's relationships.
Their sample consisted of 878 participants (433 men and 445 women), who were over 18 and in relations at least 2 years. Most participants (75%) were married, 16% were exclusively with someone and 9% were engaged. A small majority (52.6%) of women were identified as exclusively heterosexual, and the majority (62.5%) of men were identified as exclusively heterosexual.
The authors asked participants to answer the following questions:
During your last sexual experience with your partner, how much did you kiss on your lips? The answers were from 1 = “to 5 = “several times”
Over the past year, how often have you kissed your partner? The answers ranged from 1 to 7, where 1 = “back from” and 7 = “more than once a day”.
The authors also asked participants questions about a) the sustainability of orgasm, b) sexual frequency, c) sexual satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and d) satisfaction and discontent in relationships. They controlled the status of relationship, race, sexual orientation, duration of relationship and income.
Findes
Most respondents reported having kissed during the last sexual act on a 3.5-4 scale of 5 that was the maximum. The next question had an average answer level number 6.
For women and men, the frequency of the specific <x0putations” was found to have a significant and direct effect on the sustainability of orgasm, sexual frequency, and sexual satisfaction. Other kisses also have an effect on satisfying the relationship.
As for gender differences, the endurance of women's orgasm and sexual pleasure were more influenced by specific kisses (that is, kisses during their last sexual act). For men, however, the global mass of kissing (that is, often they reported kissing their partner in general) was more related to sexual pleasure and the relationship in general.
What do these findings mean?
The findings of this study suggest that kissing is an important predictor of sexual pleasure and relationships for men and women in long - term relationships. So use every moment to kiss as if it were your first time!
