All French women by the age of 25 will benefit free contraceptions from the state.
The move, announced by Health Minister Olivier Vèran, will be valid from January 1st, 2022.
In fact, since 2013, when the law on free contraceptions for girls aged 13 to 18, abortions have been down, ranging from a rate of 9.5% to 6% between 2012 and 2018.
The estimated cost of the new measure is about 21m euros per year, useful to cover the costs of “all kinds of female contraceptives, indiscriminately” and all treatments related to contraception, including biological tests and prescription consultations.
