Eurodeputs: Police, barricades from northern Kosovo to find a solution

MEPs of the European Parliament have called on Kosovo and Serbia to withdraw Kosovo Police forces, every military unit, as well as the barricades imposed by heavy means at border crossings between the two countries, in Jarinje and Brnjak. “We are deeply concerned about the recent tensions at the Jarinje and Brnjak border points. “We are deeply concerned about the recent tensions at the Jarinje and Brnjak border points. Serbia and Kosovo must urgently find a peaceful and sustainable solution in order to ensure the security and protection of all citizens”, the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Commission statement said.
And promotional rhetoric and provocations have been required to stop.
“We want to see the withdrawal of special police and any units of the army and unlock roads. The unilateral actions and provocations and promotional rhetoric, which raise tensions and influence the well-being of local communities, should be halted. We call on the EU and its partners to continue working to reduce the crisis and call on the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to use the platform of EU facilitated dialogue to resolve all open issues, including those related to freedom of movement”, the eurodeputs' joint statement said.
It further emphasises that “the abnormalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo is the precondition for the EU accession of both countries, and is also essential to ensuring stability and prosperity in the region and, wider,”.
The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet von Cromon, over the situation at border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia, in Jarinje and Brnjak, also stated that both sides should find a peaceful solution to the situation.

A statement by the Committee says that “euros express deep concern for the security of all citizens, due to tensions at Jarinje and Brnjak crossings. ”
