The test occurred until North Korean ambassador to the UN said no one could deny Pyongyang the right to self-defense and test weapons.
Earlier this month Pyongyang had tested its ballistics and even sea missiles, reports the BBC.
But a few days earlier, North Korea had expressed readiness to enter negotiations with South.
The U.S. Army said in a statement that was aware of launching the missile but that it posed no immediate threat to American personnel or its allies.
