One of the benefits of using menstrual cups is that you don't have to think about periods for hours, but that might be a disadvantage, because you're going to forget about it.
How long is it safe to wear a menstrual cup?
Gynecologist Amy Roskin says the general recommendation is that you can leave a menstrual cup for 8-12 hours.
If there's any leak, or if you're experiencing a serious leak, you'll probably have to get it out faster to clean it”, she suggests.
What would you do if you left it any longer by accident?
Dr. Roskin says:
You just take out the menstrual cup and clean it up completely. The risk of infection or “socus” is small because menstrual cups are generally made of silicon or rubber and are not absorption like tampons. However, it does not give you the right to leave it for longer than it should deliberately. Put a memory on your phone to remove it at the end of the day.
If you leave for long (some days), there is an increasing risk of infection. If that happens to you, consult your doctor. Also be watched for pain, fever, and/or bad wind vaginal downloads.
Clean out your menstrual cups by boiling them so that you sterilize them. If even after the bath, you feel that they smell unpleasant, it's time to buy another one.
