The first is that they're going to tell you the truth more often because, researchers say, they're more likely not to have <x0filter” and they're less restrained, and we all sometimes need a friend who will tell us what we don't want to hear.
Another reason, according to the study, is that those who swear are often more intelligent, although they are usually supposed to lack vocabulary and are less intelligent than others. And being more intelligent will give you sound advice.
The third reason why they are best friends is that they can be trusted - that is, some studies have shown that people who work well together find it easier to joke in a more harsh way and to insult one another more easily.
Studies have also shown that reproach helps in some situations so volunteers were twice asked to put their hands on ice water, but on one occasion they were not allowed to swear, and in another they could say whatever they wanted.
The group allowed to swear could endure more pain than the group not allowed to use abusive speech. It's the same, says research, with emotional pain, because releasing frustration reduces the likelihood that the pain will appear physically.
