Excavations were made by local and German institutions on the Rexha family property.
After finding soldiers in question are buried at home, while in the courtyard of the ancient house of this tribe lies the memorial cross with the description in Albanian and German “here has fired two German soldiers from 1944 to 2021”.
Sylejman Rex has confessed how their tribe, more precisely their grandfather and his father, both already dead, had buried the two soldiers who were killed in combat with partisans over 77 years ago.
For all these decades, the people from Popova had kept the location of the German tomb secret, since Germany decorated Sylejman Reja with gratitude and “The silver chain of honour”.
