The prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, hosted representatives of several local/regional televisions at the helm with Mr. Nexmerdin Spahiu.
The meeting discussed the role and importance of local media in strengthening democracy, monitoring transparency and accountability of local governments, and the obstacles and challenges facing local and regional televisions.
Spahiu informed Prime Minister Kurti of the problems behind the law's failure to implement by audiovisual media service operators, in particular with the ranking, as he said, illegal TV channels on platforms. Mr. Spahiu warned of the danger and damage the creation of monopolies for local and regional television broadcasters. As he said, the Media Law gives priority to local audiovisual broadcasters, so they seek no favors, but only law enforcement.
Prime Minister Kurti stressed that the change that took place on February 14th and the powerful mandate the people gave us meant precise law enforcement in all areas and in all institutions. He assured media owners that they will constantly commit to the continued commitment of local media to create favourable and equal working and action conditions.
